Now I can’t deny I love the cafes, cozy and sociable meeting places where you can catch up with your friends. However I am drifting away from savouring one good cup of quality coffee every day & falling into the one or more of what I call “buckets” of coffee. Like the coffee itself I’ve noticed that my sleep is poorer quality.
Coffee, or the caffeine in it is underestimated as a legal high. In moderation it has health giving properties. What we call in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) yang properties so it gives you a lift, useful for someone like me who has a tendency to be sluggish. It stimulates the brain, bowel, digestive system and helps to break down stagnation and dampness (TCM) that can lead to ill health.
However caffeine activates the stress hormone cortisol, putting you in fight or flight mode. If your organs are constantly on high alert it can lead to burn-out or exhaustion and your immune system will be weakened. If you find yourself jittery, overheated, waking in the night, yawning for no reason it could be that you are overindulging. So treat it with respect & savour every cup.
